GO AHEAD... UNPLUG THE TV! What happens when kids get unplugged from the TV? A lot!
Think back to your youth and the games you used to play, like hopscotch, jump rope, tag and hula hoop. There were no videogames or DVDs and there weren't 300 channels on TV. If you wanted to dance you put on your favorite songs and got moving; you didn't watch Madonna do it for you. It's time to turn off the TV and turn on the fun!
If your kids are young, put on some crazy dance music and let them
loose. Why not join them with some silly dance steps of your own? Do
family activities that get everyone on the move. If you have older
kids, go hiking, go to a park, try bowling, or grab a rake, build some
leaf piles and jump in! Take the dog for a long walk, go biking, hit
the beach, play a game of basketball, grab a tennis racket or do
jumping jacks outside. If you search, you may even find a local group
of kids that play sports such as volleyball or baseball - or you can
organize your own neighborhood team.Active kids are happier, healthier, more energetic and get better grades. So, get your kids involved in making an activity list that doesn't involve electronic gadgets and get going!
Remember to keep yourself active, too. After all, you're the one setting the example for your family. You'll feel better and show your family that staying fit can be fun.
