All-natural 100% fruit juice can play a healthy role in a child's
diet. A 2008 study in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine
examined 21 recent studies to determine if 100% fruit juice consumption
was related to childhood obesity. The authors found that 100% all-natural
fruit juice consumption is not related to obesity in children. They
also concluded that fruit juice is a healthy source of vitamins and
minerals and contributes to a nutrient-dense diet. The study also
revealed that 100% percent all-natural fruit juice drinkers have
better diets than children and adults who do not drink juice.
Fruit juice can be a healthier alternative to sugar-laden sodas,
sports drinks and sweetened fruit drinks. It is important to look
for 100% fruit juice that does not contain added sugar or high fructose
corn syrup. Finally, we know that children do not always want to
drink water.
So 100% all-natural fruit juice can help children stay
hydrated as well as achieve the recommended five to thirteen daily
fruit and vegetable servings. The American Academy of Pediatrics’
recommends children 1 to 6 years of age consume 4 to 6 ounces of
juice per day and children 7 to 18 years of age drink 8 to 12 ounces
of juice per day.
Many studies indicate children and teens are way
off the mark when it comes to calcium intake. Apple & Eve 100%
all-natural fruit juice can also help contribute to a child’s daily
calcium requirement. Calcium is an essential nutrient needed for
strong bones and teeth and contributes to a fracture-free skeleton
in childhood and later. Apple & Eve 100% all-natural fruit juice
is fortified with 100 milligrams of calcium in every 6.75-oz. serving,
providing 10% of the daily requirement for children.

One of the biggest shortfalls in the American diet is a lack of fiber. It is particularly pervasive with school-aged children. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) says girls ages 9 to 18 require a minimum range of 20-29 grams and boys the same age should get 31 to 38 grams of
fiber daily. But most children's diets do not provide what they need.
On-the-go lifestyles have greatly contributed to this problem, and
most children are averaging only 8-15 grams per day.
Fiber is important as it helps reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes
and high blood cholesterol concentrations in adults, and emerging
research suggests fiber will also help children reduce their chance
of these conditions. Diets rich in fiber-filled foods may also reduce
the risk of heart disease later in life.
Fiber is a complex carbohydrate and high-fiber foods are packed with
vitamins and minerals to fuel growth and development. They also contain
beneficial plant compounds called phytonutrients that boost a child's
immunity.
What is the right amount of fiber? The IOM recommends that children
consume 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories of food they eat
each day.
Every bit of fiber helps. Fizz Ed, our sparkling water and fruit
juice beverage, is made with 70% real fruit juice and sparkling water,
also contains 1 gram of fiber, and does not contain any high fructose
corn syrup. Fizz Ed has obtained an exemption from the USDA from
regulations pertaining to Foods of Minimum Nutritional Value, which
can be found at our web site fizz-ed.com.
